'Gator country

Top, the vivid foliage of Honey Island Swamp, Louisiana's first nature conservancy. Barb and Malia, above left, and Donald and Susan, above, boarded a little boat to explore the bayous and sloughs while our genial tour guide kept an eye out for alligators. Below, we did spot one (you can see the white marshmallow the guide threw in to get him to eat, which somehow doesn't seem like it would fall into the category of "natural alligator diet"), but he wasn't much interested. (Maybe he's on a low-carb diet.) Susan had to settle on a plastic version (wielded above by the guide in the gift shop) to practice her swamp scream.
